Sea level. 

There are 2 major causes of global sea level rise are: (1) thermal expansion cause by the warming of the oceans, (2) loss of land - based ice.   

The ocean is not flat. Water, as a fluid, is influenced by many forces that determine its shape. There are many elements that change the height of the sea such as: winds, tides, glaciers melt, density, gravity,..  Scientists use to measure is satellite altimetry.
