Mass movement

Mass movement are movements of masses of bodies of soil, bed rock, rock debris, soil mud, which usually occur a long steep sided hills and mountains, with the primary cause the pull of gravity. This slipping of large amounts of rock and soil are seen in landslides, mud slides, and Avalanches.

Gravity's role is relentless, it operates 24/7/365 and the law of gravity is strictly enforced. The rain falls, water flows, ice gliders, wind, waves all together make Mass Movement. There are three types of mass movement: Slides, flows, and Falls. Causes that cause mass movement: volcanic, mudslides, Earthquake, and human modifications.

The impact of mass movement is a landslide may fall across a river, damming the water and causing in to form a lake,. For example, in Alberta, Canada, in 1903, a mass about 30.6 million cubic meters slipped from the top the Turtle Mountain and fell to the floor of the adjacent valley. The mass of earth and rock spread across a 2 mile-wide valley, annihilating the town of Frank and killing 70 people.
